Short History
The Club's genesis
was the establishment of two junior colts sides in 1964, the 'Tigers'
and the 'Panthers', which competed in the Southern Football League
competition.
The Christies
Beach Football Club was formally incorporated in 1966 when a senior
side was formed and combined with the two junior sides. The teams
took on the tri-colours of red, black and white and the moniker
of the 'Saints'.
Despite its
short history the Saints have been very successful, winning 31 Premierships
in the junior grades, 7 A-Grade premierships and 6 Reserves Premierships.
The club takes
pride in the fact that several of its junior players went on to
play league football in the SANFL and AFL competitions. These players
include:
Nigel Smart, Tony Modra, Dean Brogan, Chris Groom, Allan Hogg, Paul
Crate, Paul Martin, David Martin, Graham Aitken, Nathan Sinclair,
Brian McLeod, Richard Harrison, Ian Winton, Andrew Bachmann and
a few others.
Ken Applegarth,
a successful player and coach for the Saints went on to become a
SANFL coach with South Adelaide's League side. Tony Burgess,
a former Christies Beach Best & Fairest, spent a short time
as coach of Glenelg's League side after playing for West Adelaide
and Collingwood.
The Club can
also boast 4 Sunday Mail Medallists as well as 6 reserves medallists
and 25 junior medallists.
